I feel like I was battling that cold for the past month. Congestion. Eye infection. And a very sore throat that felt like it had lumps in it. I think I am nearly through it now. Ready to get back on the health wagon. I think a few green juices are what helped me get over the sickness. Green juice is medicine.
The no meat thing was good for a while, then I feel off the wagon. I actually was feeling better. Then I caught a cold and worked an insane number of hours at work the past few weeks. History repeating itself.
I watched a movie called The Game Changers. It is about how a lot of high performing athletes have switched to a plant based diet. It got me thinking about how much meat I eat every day. Not eating meat hasn’t even really crossed my mind. But I have cut meat out for the past few days and I feel pretty good. It isn’t very hard to do. Veggie sandwich at subway. Pasta. Pizza. Not incredibly heathy. But I do notice a difference in how I feel. Not so sluggish. There might be something to this. I am not thinking I will cut out meat entirely, but certainly think I am going to cut down significantly on the amount of meat that I eat.
Feeling contemplative this first day of 2020 as I think about the past decade. What a shit show it was. I cannot really remember anything of significance for 2010 and 2011. I checked Facebook and apparently I joined that in 2010. 2012 was the worst year of my life thus far. Several significant deaths in my family and also a divorce for me. 2013 was mostly focused on work. I bought a new car and a new golf cart. I started getting into shooting and found that to be a fun hobby in addition to golf. 2014-2017 weren’t anything special. In 2018, I moved to a new house – and that was a big deal for me. 2019 was spent settling into the new home and working on some transitions at work.
What will the 2020s hold for me?
I had an amazing night’s sleep last night. Fitbit ranked it as a 79 – which is much higher than any previous nights for the past few weeks. A lot of deep sleep (almost two hours) and over an hour of REM sleep. I am trying to figure out what I did to get that result. It certainly wasn’t exercise – because I pretty much watched football all afternoon/evening. Here is what I ate: smoothie, popcorn, turkey breast, potato salad, stir fry take out. Not the cleanest diet, but better than normal for me. I also drank a lot of water with lemon. It would be fantastic to string two nights of sleep like that together.
