This covid hysteria has had the unfortunate effect of making home meal delivery more commonplace for me. It is way too convenient to order something on my phone and have it delivered within 30 minutes. To make matters worse, they offer deals like save $10 when you spend $30…which is all the more reason for me to order two meals or a meal and an appetizer. I spend $40 each night for dinner and eat it all myself. I work a very long and stressful day and my release is thinking about what I am going to gorge on that evening. Then I get sleepy, fall asleep, and do it all again the next day. Madness.
I have been listening to an interesting book on tape called Atomic Habits. Lots of interesting information about starting good habits. I need to start the habit of a better morning routine which should include some exercise and some meditation and some nutrition. I also need to get into a better evening routing which should include some journaling, introspection, reading, and meditation.
I have watched a few interesting films on Gaia about plant based diets and eating locally. It makes so damn much sense. I know a lot of ways to cook meat, but not much about many tasty plant based dishes. I need to learn more about this. I subscribed to Purple Carrot to send me 3 plant-based meals per week starting in a few weeks. Hopefully I will learn some cool recipes. I have also subscribed to a local produce supplier to provide a box of produce per week – I am actually on a waiting list for that, I suppose from the covid hysteria. If so, that might be one positive side effect from covid. Buying local produce should not only taste better, but is so much smarter for the local economy. The dollars spent in the grocery store do very little to support the local economy because it pays trucking companies and that food is rarely grown around here. The dollar spent at the local farmer will be completely reinvested in our economy. I am going to start going to the local farmers markets once I don’t have to wear a stupid mask. In the mean time, I will learn some recipes from Purple Carrot.
I live in an area surrounded by a lot of agriculture. Unfortunately, it is mostly corporate and used for unhealthy reasons. Imagine if we generated a market for local produce that would convince those farmers to grow a variety of healthy vegetables and fruits for us to eat locally. This would truly become a place that people would want to live.
I have a feeling that a shift to a more plant based diet will have a fundamental shift for me.
