Well, the first year has come to an end. I spent some time reading through all of my posts from this year. I suppose that is a good benefit of keeping a journal – you can look back and see what worked and what didn’t. It appears as though I started out with a plan but it quickly went wayside after the first month. And long days at work seem to be the culprit. Common theme.
I didn’t lose weight or get any healthier in 2018. But I did make several positive changes – and big changes. First, I earned a nice promotion at work. Considering how much work consumes my life – I guess the jury is still out on whether that is actually a good change or not. But I should be able to delegate a lot more and hopefully stress a lot less. I guess we will see. The second and more important change is that I moved to a new house. I decluttered about 15 years of junk from the old house and got rid of a lot of stuff that reminded me of my failed marriage. That felt really, really good. The old house sold right around Thanksgiving and so that chapter of my life feels officially closed.
To start 2019, my plan is to not work so much and stop obsessing about work – I have been letting it consume too much of my energy. I will try to limit my work to 40 hours/week and will try to avoid staying late. Also, I plan to start each morning with meditation and a green smoothie. Also, I plan to be more diligent about journaling. I will start keeping details about what I eat each day and how I am feeling. I am also going to try and limit how much TV I watch in the evening and instead spend that time reading and doing research about topics that are of interest to me: diet, meditation, decision making, the brain, the gut. As I mentioned a few days ago, I am also going to start using a meal delivery service – hoping it brings some normalcy to my dinners with healthy options and normal portions and more importantly – no more drive through junk food. Will 2019 be the year of the Chooch?
If the rest of the year is like today, it might be a good year. I didn’t watch much TV. Did some overdue book reading. Made a nice, big green juice. Went for a walk in the new neighborhood for the first time since moving in. I didn’t eat very healthy today. Had some leftover spaghetti for brunch, the green juice for early afternoon, and then a homemade pizza for an early dinner. The good news is that I didn’t eat out. The juice really helped me feel better. I need to start juicing more often.
